Throughout the school year, second grade students will compose short stories. Each story will have a seasonal theme and act as a chapter in a book that they have both written and illustrated. For the month of October students were to write a haunted house story. The characters were to begin safe at home, go off on an adventure, and arrive safely home.
With inspiration from stories, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, students set off to write their own composition. Many students incorporated traditional monsters, while others invented new ones. Each short story provides more insight to the students characters, who are to remain the same throughout their book. As our writing skills improve throughout the year, the words written on the page are colored with detail and begin to come to life.
